Sports Betting and ESPN

To better serve the millions of sports fans who participate in sports wagering, and to help educate general sports fans with more in-depth analysis, ESPN launched Daily Wager, a daily sports gambling news and information show, in March of 2019. The one-hour program airs Monday through Friday on ESPN2 at 6 p.m. ET, also streaming live on the ESPN App. A Sunday morning edition airs during football season. Daily Wager airs from ESPN’s studio at The LINQ Hotel + Experience in Las Vegas.

ESPN is wading deeper into the billion-dollar sports gambling industry. The sports media giant announced on Monday a pair of multi-year agreements that grant Caesars Entertainment and DraftKings exclusive marketing rights across its website, mobile app and the rest of the ESPN digital network. ESPN is expanding its sports betting footprint with Monday’s debut of Bet, a new half-hour program that will stream three nights per week on digital platforms.Bet, co-hosted by Joe Fortenbaugh.

“Sports betting is quickly becoming endemic to the overall experience of the sports fan,” said Mark Walker, Senior Vice President of Business Development & Innovation, ESPN. A decade ago, ESPN gambling analyst Doug Kezirian was toiling in Las Vegas as the host of a local radio show that specialized in sports wagering.

Daily Wager joined existing sports gambling-related content on ESPN platforms including:

  • Stanford Steve and The Bear podcast (football season).
  • “Bad Beats” on SportsCenterwith Scott Van Pelt.
  • Sports betting content in “ESPN Chalk” on ESPN.com.
  • Bettor Days with Mike Greenberg on ESPN+

In May of 2019, ESPN and Caesars Entertainment announced that Caesars would serve as ESPN’s official odds data supplier and that the studio at The LINQ for sports betting themed content to be created would be built. The studio launched on August 24, 2020.
